This is the first post on this site1. Firsts should be special, n’est ce pas? I have some ideas for posts, but none of them is very special. So, let’s make a boring move and write about this site.

After posting on various platforms and sites for more than a decade connected to my real-life-identity, I decided to separate some of my areas of interest. Not because I intent to do evil or illegal things, but because it makes life easier.

In real-life we all know to whom of our colleagues, family, friends, or neighbors we talk about which topics. And we know with whom we don’t want to talk about a topic. We choose to whom we talk.

Posting online we loose this control. This is a chance and a burden. We can reach out to so many people we don’t know in the real-world. But on the other hand we cannot control with whom we communicate about this sensitive topics2. By using protected accounts we can regain this control while excluding a big part of our potential audience.

But we can separate our person from the topic when posting on a non personal space.

My mastodon-account @[email protected] is such a separated space for some topics. And xoxil.org is the companion-site for this account. Not my new site, but a new site on mine.
